Avec une avance de 140 points, Walter Berger de Niederurnen est sorti gagnant de la deuxième demi-finale suisse du concours « Young European Truck Driver » de cette année !

Le samedi 8 mai 2010, la deuxième demi-finale du concours « Young European Truck Driver » en Suisse s’est déroulée dans le cadre de la journée des portes ouvertes à Kloten. Alors qu’à la première demi-finale de la fin mars à Pratteln, Sandra Zeller a été la première femme à gagner une demi-finale, c’est Walter Berger qui a réussi à Kloten de tenir en échec ses dix-neuf concurrents. Avec 915 points au total, Walter Berger s’est procuré une avance confortable par rapport au deuxième du classement Ivo Steiner de Kaltbrunn.

« Check before driving » 
Au poste « Check before driving », il s’agissait une fois de plus de détecter dans le cadre du contrôle du véhicule des défaillances générales, comme une ampoule défectueuse, et de les annoncer au responsable Daniel Stadelmann. À ce stade, le gagnant ultérieur Walter Berger était encore très loin de son rang définitif et a dû se contenter de la onzième place. À ce poste, c’est Diego Raschle de Bazenheid qui a le mieux tiré son épingle du jeu, suivi par Rolf Gantenbein de Schwellbrunn et Valentin Niesink de Lucerne.

La conduite écologique 
Participant pour la quatrième fois déjà au concours « Young European Truck Driver », Walter Berger a su tirer parti de sa grande expérience. Il a réussi à maîtriser ce poste de manière souveraine et il en est sorti gagnant en se faisant créditer le maximum de points. Walter Berger a été suivi de près par les deux concurrents Hansueli Schweizer et Ivo Steiner qui ont atteint tous deux le même score.

Gymkhana
Pour la deuxième demi-finale aussi, les responsables des « Routiers Suisses » ont concocté un parcours exigeant et varié. En faisant preuve d’une acuité visuelle parfaite et de beaucoup de doigté et de sensibilité au niveau des pédales d’accélérateur et de freins, Marco Schaad de Hasliberg s’est fait créditer le maximum de points. C’est précisément cette partie du concours qui a été suivie de près par de nombreux visiteurs et de nombreux spectateurs ont été profondément impressionnés par le savoir-faire et la précision des conducteurs professionnels ! En tant que deuxième au classement de cette épreuve, Walter Berger a récolté dans cette discipline également des points décisifs ; Rolf Gantenbein a lui aussi acquis ici des points déterminants pour le classement final.

Grande offensive des femmes
Après la première demi-finale à Pratteln qui a été remportée par Sandra Zeller et lors de laquelle Silke Käsermann  s’est qualifiée comme deuxième femme pour la finale nationale du 26 juin 2010 à Interlaken, trois femmes ont de nouveau pris le départ à la deuxième demi-finale à Kloten, à savoir Corinne Bohnenblust d’Abtwil, Nicole Kolp de Pfäffikon et Leonie Facchin de Hochdorf. À Kloten aussi, ces dames ne sont pas restées à l’ombre des Messieurs. Lors de la deuxième demi-finale, une femme, Leonie Facchin, a de nouveau réussi à se qualifier pour la finale nationale. À Interlaken, trois femmes vont donc faire face pour la première fois à sept hommes.

Repartir « à zéro » 
Pour les dix finalistes, il s’agit à présent de se préparer au mieux à la finale suisse du 26 juin 2010 à Interlaken. Les points accumulés dans la demi-finale ne compteront en effet plus et tout repartira à zéro. La finale de cette année aura pour la première fois lieu pendant le programme-cadre du festival international Trucker & Country à Interlaken. Faire la démonstration de ses aptitudes de conduite à des milliers de visiteurs et de nombreux collègues professionnels constituera incontestablement un défi particulier. On verra à Interlaken si Sandra Zeller, Silke Käsermann ou Leonie Facchin réussiront à nouveau à battre les hommes ! Une chose est en tous les cas certaine : le soir du 26 juin 2010, nous saurons qui va représenter la Suisse à la finale européenne à Södertälje en Suède.

Double première à l’occasion de la 1ère demi-finale du concours « Young European Truck Driver » en Suisse ! En dehors de la gagnante Sandra Zeller, une deuxième femme, Silke Käsermann, s’est qualifiée pour la finale nationale du 26 juin 2010 à Interlaken.

Les participants qui se sont qualifiés pour la première demi-finale du concours « Young European Truck Driver »  (YETD) ont dû se lever tôt. Avant le commencement du briefing, chaque participant a dû tirer son numéro de départ et a reçu en échange quelques cadeaux. Après une brève introduction et l’explication des règles du concours,  les choses sérieuses ont commencé. Répartis en trois groupes, les candidats ont dû résoudre au mieux les tâches suivantes :

• Check before Driving
• Conduite Eco-Drive
• Gymkhana

Check before Driving
Sous l’égide compétente de Daniel Stadelmann, gagnant suisse du concours YETD de l’année 2005, les participants ont dû trouver et réparer dans un local fermé des défaillances sur un véhicule avec remorque. C’est ici que Sandra Zeller, qui allait plus tard remporter le concours, a tiré le mieux son épingle du jeu en ayant une longueur d’avance sur tous les autres candidats en matière de connaissances et d’aptitudes.

Conduite Eco-Drive
Une conduite économique, mais aussi « anticipante », est de nos jours le critère  le plus important en matière de conduite Eco-Drive et permet de surcroît de préserver le matériel. Sur un tronçon défini, la vitesse, le nombre de changements de vitesses ainsi que  la consommation moyenne de carburant ont été enregistrés. « Driver Support », le nouveau système d’aide à la  conduite en temps réel, unique dans son genre, de Scania,  a fourni à chaque conducteur des renseignements importants en analysant son mode de conduite. Dans cette discipline, c’est Tobias Hägeli qui a remporté de justesse la victoire qui lui a valu en définitive un quatrième rang au classement final.

Gymkhana
Pour le parcours de gymkhana, il a fallu faire preuve de subtilité pour approcher les obstacles et de beaucoup de doigté au niveau de la pédale d’accélérateur. Sous les yeux critiques des « Routiers Suisses », il fallait effectuer dans les temps prévus ce parcours difficile avec le moins d’erreurs  possible. Dans cette discipline, c’est Thomas Schär qui a remporté la palme.

Sandra Zeller a été la grande gagnante
Le suspense était palpable avant  l’annonce du classement à 16:00 heures  Qui allait remporter ce concours ? Personne parmi les participants n’osait émettre un pronostic car l’évaluation de la propre performance était trop difficile. A chaque rang supplémentaire annoncé, la tension dans les nouveaux locaux d’atelier de la maison Thommen Nutzfahrzeuge AG à Pratteln est montée d’un cran. La joie de Sandra Zeller de remporter ce concours a été éclatante. Emue aux larmes, elle arrivait à peine à réaliser ce qu’elle venait d’accomplir, même des heures après. Le deuxième rang a été remporté par Fabian Roth de Schüpfen et Thomas Schär de Gondiswil a été  le troisième à pouvoir se hisser sur le podium. En dehors des trois premiers, Tobias Hägeli, titulaire du quatrième rang, pourra encore participer à la finale à Interlaken en compagnie de Silke Käsermann qui s’est classée cinquième.

Finale nationale à Interlaken
Pour les premiers cinq finalistes, il s’agit maintenant de se préparer au mieux à la finale suisse du 26 juin 2010 à Interlaken. Cette année, elle aura lieu pour la première fois dans le cadre du festival international Trucker & Country à Interlaken. Cela sera un « honneur »particulier pour les candidats de faire la démonstration devant de nombreux collègues professionnels et des milliers de visiteurs de leurs propres aptitudes de conduite. Sandra Zeller arrivera-t-elle encore une fois à triompher de ses collègues masculins ? Nous saurons le soir du 26 juin 2010 qui représentera la Suisse en 2010 à la finale du concours « Young European Truck Driver » à Södertälje, en Suède.

Scania Formation conducteurs : la préparation parfaite au concours du « Young European Truck Driver ».

Il n'est jamais trop tard pour s'améliorer Le programme Scania Formation conducteurs est peut-être la meilleure façon de se préparer au concours du « Jeune conducteur européen ». Un conducteur correctement formé conduit plus prudemment et plus économiquement. Et ce programme peut même être utile aux conducteurs les plus expérimentés. Chris Vermeiren travaille en Belgique. C'est l'un des formateurs à la conduite les plus expérimentés de Scania : « Tout tient au style de conduite. Savoir ralentir avant un feu pour ne pas avoir à s'arrêter et redémarrer, conduire à bas régime, savoir anticiper… un conducteur qui suit mes conseils va réduire sensiblement son niveau de stress, sans pour autant arriver en retard à destination. Avec ce nouveau style de conduite, tout le monde est gagnant : le véhicule, le transporteur, la sécurité routière, l'environnement et, bien sûr, le conducteur. » En conclusion, si vous participez à un programme Scania Formation conducteurs, pourquoi ne pas vous inscrire au concours du « Jeune conducteur européen » ? Seule condition à remplir : avoir moins de 35 ans !

The Irish final in Scania’s Young European Truck Driver recently took place over two weekends. Driver Gabriel Warde, with a near flawless performance, was named the winner by an independent jury from the Irish Road Safety Association.

The Irish national final of the Young European Truck Driver was held in early summer at the Scania distributor Westwards’ facilities in Strokestown, in County Roscommon. Spectators were treated to both a thrilling competition, a close-up look at the new Scania V8 trucks, and the trailer from the Irish Road Safety Association with its simulator.

The final was held over two weekends, 26–27 June and 3–4 July. At the first weekend, 30 drivers performed the fuel economy driving and fault detection parts of the competition; from there, 14 drivers made it to the contest finale the following weekend, which tested their skills in manoeuvring the vehicles.

The competitors were coached by the YETD 2007 winner Tom Sharkey who drove the track. The competition’s jury comprised representatives from the Irish Road Safety Association.

The final contest was extremely tight, with the drivers making few mistakes. Gabriel Warde won the day with near-flawless driving. He’ll be representing Ireland in the European final on 9 October in Södertälje, Sweden.

The majority of the competitors found the “reverse the garage” manoeuvre very tricky, and their best advice to future contestants was to practice.

Winner Warde says he normally drives a truck from another manufacturer. Looking forward to the European final in Södertälje, he says he plans to “contact Scania to test a vehicle” and “practise a lot”.

Proceed to gate. Gabriel Warde, winner of the Irish YETD competition, is on course for the European final in Södertälje.

During the recent Dutch semi-final, one of the drivers who recently got his driving license scored an extraordinary 99 percent on the Scania Driver Support part of the Young European Truck Driver Competition.

Robert van der Linden, born 1986, who just recently got his driving license, scored an amazing 99 percent in the part of the YETD competition involving Scania Driver Support, a system that coaches the driver to save fuel and use the truck’s capabilities optimally. Apparently van der Linden made almost perfect use use of the truck’s rolling weight, the new Scania Opticruise as well of the Scania Retarder.

The reason for him scoring that high, despite his youth, could well be the fact that in order to obtain a Dutch driving licence, you nowadays have to drive according to something called ‘Het Nieuwe Rijden’ (‘The new driving rules’) which includes anticipating and fuel efficient driving.

It’s poised to be a nail-biting national final on 25 July in Assen during the Truckstar Festival.

As close as it gets – the semi-finals are tough events for the many excellent truck drivers participating.

Fuel efficient driving – one of many things a skilled driver has to master.

The last week of June, three national finals in the Young European Truck Driver took place. The U.K. final attracted more than 5,000 spectators while the Swiss and Czech attracted some 500 fans. And for the first time in the history of YETD, a woman made it all the way to the European final.

The U.K. final at the Heritage Motor Centre was sold out weeks in advance. Eventually, more than 5,000 visitors took part in the extensive program offered by Scania Great Britain. In addition to having the opportunity to test drive Michelin’s F1 simulator and eating Scania designed ice-cream, the crowd could follow twelve finalists, of which two were women, fighting for the British championship. Colin McKeag, a 34 year old driving for M.K. Transport in Blackburn, kept his nerves under control while checking his vehicle, driving as fuel efficient as possible, and finally manoeuvring his vehicle. He eventually secured his ticket to the European final in October.

McKeog wasn’t the only skilled driver that secured a ticket to the European final this weekend. Pavel Neterda, 33, from the Czech Republic added that little extra in the very last part of the Czech national final and showed his manoeuvring excellence. Neterda’s success was witnessed by some 300 spectators and his driving was commented by the Czech winner of Young European Truck Driver 2005, Jiri Koblizek.

For the first time in the history of the Young European Truck Driver a woman made it all the way to Södertälje. In the Swiss national final, that took place during the Truck & Country Festival in Interlaken, Sandra Zeller, 24, outperformed her competitors. In addition to the thrilling Swiss final, the spectators could also take a closer look at the new Scania R 730, the latest addition to the powerful range of Scania V8 trucks.

Ľuboš Jakúbek won the Slovak national final of Scania’s Young European Truck Driver, and he is determined to repeat his performance at the European final in Södertälje in October.
“I’m in shock. Pinch me, I must be dreaming,” said a breathless Ľuboš Jakúbek at a new Scania dealer site just outside Bratislava. He said he would have been happy with fifth place, but to actually win the Slovak national final of the Young European Truck Driver competition made him “super-happy.”
Jakúbek made his debut in YETD this year, clearly inspired by his own brother, who made it to the European final twice and placed second and third. Will it be a case of “third time’s a charm” for the Jakúbek family?
Jakúbek won the fuel efficient driving part of the competition during both the semi-final and the final. “I’m going to win at least the fuel efficient driving in the European final,” he declares.
And how does Jakúbek intend to prepare for the finals? “I will practice the combo, since it was pretty tricky,” he says.
The atmosphere during the competition was festive, with many laughs among the ten finalists. But according to Jakúbek, the ten finalists were all nervous and kept their tactics a secret.
The Slovak national final attracted some 250 spectators who also had the opportunity to take a closer look at the Truck of the Year – the Scania R-series – at the newly opened dealer’s open-house event.
